It’s almost clichéd to say this, but when you move from somewhere it’s always the little things that you never really payed much attention to that you end up missing in a big way. In this particular case, it’s the sounds of a Southern summer’s night that are absent here in Scotland that stand out. That nightly symphony of insect noises that form a white-noise background to any evening just plain doesn’t exist here. The bugs must be more refined or polite to interrupt your peace with their chirping. Luckily, I recorded a short bit of those sounds before I left… just on a whim, a whim which I am very thankful I acted upon.
