Yesterday was pretty choppy on the ship.  I went down below to look for any trash people might have dropped while touring and captured this sound of the water lapping against the hull when I was in the hold.  At this position, I’m actually standing just under the waterline. Hearing lapping like this while being below on a 185-year-old warship gives you a special feeling.

It’s nice to have sounds like Glamis Burn to help you relax after your driving test.

It’s almost clichéd to say this, but when you move from somewhere it’s always the little things that you never really payed much attention to that you end up missing in a big way.  In this particular case, it’s the sounds of a Southern summer’s night that are absent here in Scotland that stand out.  That nightly symphony of insect noises that form a white-noise background to any evening just plain doesn’t exist here.  The bugs must be more refined or polite to interrupt your peace with their chirping.  Luckily, I recorded a short bit of those sounds before I left… just on a whim, a whim which I am very thankful I acted upon.
